If you’ve glanced at a photo of Kate Beckinsale in the last decade, you’ve probably noticed two things: the actress simply does not age, and she is always in incredible shape. The first thing most of us want to know upon seeing someone SO stunning is, obviously, how does she do it? Delish spoke to Kate at a recent Russell Hobbs launch—the famous British tea kettle and small appliance brand just came to the U.S., with Kate as a brand ambassador—and sadly, the answers are pretty no-nonsense. Here are her tips…no magic elixir involved.

She cuts back on carbs and sugar.

“They make me feel very sluggish,” she said. Instead, she eats mostly protein and vegetables, which “suit my body nicely.” So yeah, that afternoon cookie habit probably isn’t helpful 😐

She eats her veggies.

Kate used to be a vegetarian, but when she was filming Pearl Harbor, her low energy led her trainer to suggest adding chicken and fish back into her diet, she told Shape. Now, her and her daughter eat a lot of sautéed vegetables, like Brussels sprouts and broccoli, with lean proteins.

She works out HARD.

Yep—there’s no getting around this one. Kate Beckinsale works out regularly with trainer Gunnar Peterson, who also trains stars and athletes like Lebron James, Jennifer Lopez, and Kim Kardashian. She does circuit training, cardio, and plenty of ab workouts, and sees working out as “nature’s antidepressant.”

She’s a yogi.

Kate’s Instagram feed is filled with yoga poses…with and without goats. “I love yoga, and that’s all I used to do,” she told Shape. Yoga has been shown to increase muscle strength and tone, help maintain a balanced metabolism, and reduce weight.

She doesn’t drink alcohol.

Wine, beer, and mixed drinks are an easy way to pile on calories. But that’s not something Kate has to worry about—she’s never been a big drinker, since she feel its effects quickly. “I’ve never actually had an entire glass of anything alcoholic,” she said.

But she does drink tea.

Kate says she’s a big fan of Rooibos tea, and usually drinks two cups a day. The herbal tea is caffeine free, and may have benefits related to exercise performance, concentration and mood.

She’s not into fad diets.

When I asked if she’s tried popular diets like keto or paleo, Kate said she was into adding keto-friendly coconut oil into her tea for awhile, until she became allergic to it. “It is such a bummer,” she said of her newfound allergy.

She’s got a great sense of humor.

If laughter is the best medicine, Kate’s sense of humor is certainly helping her stay young. Far from taking herself seriously, Kate regularly pokes fun at her life (and her adorable, often dressed-up cat) on Instagram.
