Early birds get the lavender

Every September, I like to remind readers about an annual event held by a local group of ladies (and a few gentlemen) who call themselves the Lavender Sisterhood. They all garden in the community garden at the Mid-County Senior Center in Capitola where they use organic methods to grow the most fragrant forms of lavender. Together, they are preserving many of the traditional lavender handicrafts that are in danger of being forgotten.
