The Manuka Honey Face Mask Is A Lifesaver For Winter Skin

Rather than spend a ton of money using expensive skin care products, some people opt to go the homemade route. They swear that using products that can be found in your kitchen is the secret to achieving and maintaining gorgeous skin. The list includes items such as avocado, coconut oil, and even eggs! But now there’s a new one to add on that you may not have heard of before.

The item, according to Women’s Health this past Monday, is manuka honey. It’s speciality honey found mostly in the country of New Zealand. But it’s more than just super extra honey. This bad boy is said to be excellent for your skin. Celebrities such as reality TV star Kourtney Kardashian swears up and down about benefits from regularly using it.

The benefits of using manuka honey on your skin are plentiful. Dermatologists explain that this is because it’s an antibacterial, killing all bacteria that are on the skin. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which will contribute to calming your skin down. That’s why manuka honey is said to be good for exfoliating; healing acne scars; hydrating skin; and finally reducing and calming down breakouts.

Manuka honey is typically used as an extra ingredient for DIY face masks. When mixed with other items such as Greek yogurt and tea tree oil, it helps create a face mask that’s both acne fighting and hydrating for your skin. If you’re not into masks, that’s okay! Manuka honey can also be used as either an acne spot treatment or as a cleanser. Both options are okay.

Having said all that, it’s important to keep in mind that there is a risk that comes with using manuka honey. Namely, the fact that you could accidentally trigger an allergic reaction. Dermatologists have stressed that you already have an allergy to bees, avoid using honey at all costs. If your allergy is minor- or you simply don’t know whether you have one or not- just test a bit on the inside of your wrist first.

Also, what kind of manuka honey you buy matters most. Your safest bet is to purchase it raw because it hasn’t been treated, thus giving you the best benefits for your skin. It will cost more, but it’s worth it. After all, your skin deserves the best- why not use the best items out there?
